Fantasy captures everyone's eye a little more the real science, because certain things become boring. David Brin even says,"Didn't we stop going to the moon because it had become boring?" That question David Brin said in his article really sums up how I feel about science sometimes. For example, some people may find learning about the moon so boring, but if you were to add flying on a dragon or zombies on the moon they would maybe want to learn more about the moon. Fantasy really doesn't take much time to understand, because when you actually like something you don't mind learning it versus something that you don't like you really just don't want anything to do with it.
I just feel like magic, fantasy, and cryptozoology is just something that everyone wants to know about because its something that we've created I wanna say or that we want to be that generation that discovers something new. People are tired of trying to do or learn the same thing we've been trying to do in the past and it gets boring. Bigfoot is something that catches my eye and I want to know more about it because its something that is just different. I guess what I'm saying is that peoples interest are changing because they want to learn about something they like not whats already been discovered or that takes to much studying or thought to be understood.
I totally agree! When you are learning/reading/watching something that deals with fantasy, people are intrigued because it is fiction created for entertainment and we have no real "bias" to the subject matter. In relation to SciFi, some people absolutely not only hate, but HATE science and they feel that detours their interest from even attempting to read the make believe aspects of science for entertainment (obviously Science Fiction). I particularly do not enjoy SciFi, but I am also not huge fan of Bigfoot unless he is advertising for Beef jerky. Like you said, some headlines may catch someone's eye because of their specific interests, but everyone is different.
ReplyDeleteI like your idea that fantasy is eye-catching because of our generation's thirst for discovery. Fantasy is so easy to get into because you don't have to think about it at all, and I think that if real science was presented in a way that was easier to understand, more people would enjoy it. Great Job!
ReplyDeleteI wonder how long it will be until fantasy becomes boring to us? Science does tend to get boring because we think we know what to expect. Fantasy is so much fun because it defies the laws of science and everything is new. I personally don't think fantasy will ever go out of style simply because it continually reinvents itself. Zombies and vampires might be popular now but whenever we grow bored of them we have plenty more where they came from.
